In Sweden, folklore and craftsmanship are essential parts of the national heritage and identity. The Lapptäcken av minnen—patchworks of memory where each fabric links past and present—stand among the most remarkable expressions of this legacy. More than mere textile assemblies, they are pages of life, where one can read joys and sorrows, unions and absences. Traditional motifs intertwine with dates, entwined initials, and meaningful fragments of worn garments—threads woven from love and remembrance.
By envisioning deeply personal, singular pieces where textiles become storytellers, Pénélope Westberg carries on this timeless tradition.
Suspended textile compositions, her works infuse spaces with a quiet poetry that invites touch and contemplation.

PROJECT
Blå Sjö (Blue Lake)

Franco-Swedish artistic director and graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Pénélope Westberg designs and produces in her Parisian studio unique, bespoke works crafted from fragments of entrusted personal histories: children’s clothing, antique fabrics, memories of places and loved ones.
Like a portrait in filigree, every Lapptäcke reveals a fleeting presence — the imprint of a fabric caressed a thousand times, the soft fading of a colour, the memory of a home or a person.

A Lapptäcke is always a one-of-a-kind piece, created on commission through a close dialogue that helps sketch an intention, define a palette, and compose a harmony where stories, materials, and emotions blend—shaped by the aspirations of its commissioner.
Each work may carry an exclusive signature: a monogram, a date, or a personalized message. Numbers and letters are the subject of a graphic study, where the sign fuses with the fiber like an indelible reminiscence.
